Press Release: Nicole Lyons Throttles To Top Ten Ranking in NHRA Top Sportsman D2

Atlanta, GA (June 4, 2012) - Nicole Lyons, female NHRA Race Car Driver, is midway into the coveted 2012 NHRA Top Sportsman Division 2 series and is ranked in the top ten. Lyons gained 30 points in her Norwalk, Ohio race last month, putting her currently in the number ten slot out of 28 racers per the NHRA website. This roadster plans to race in her home division on June 22-23, 2012 at the Atlanta Dragway with the hopes to gain momentum to the top position of the series.

“I am so happy to be ranked in the Top Ten midway into the season, especially after missing two events due to our new engine being built. Having the crank shaft break in my old engine during a test session in South Carolina was a bit of a set back but it really speaks volumes for our team being able to bounce back. I believe after our next NHRA race in June, we can bump our way into the Top 5 and then go after the 2012 championship. If any team can do it, it’s our team,” Lyons states.

Recently, Lyons has added Royal Purple and Steve Schmidt Racing Engines to her list of sponsors for this season. Lyons is the only woman currently racing NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series Top Sportsman Division 2 and the only African American woman to have raced NHRA Top Sportsman.
“I’m thankful to have Royal Purple and Steve Schmidt in my corner and their products has excellent performance,” Lyons comments.

About Nicole Lyons: Nicole Lyons, 5’6” exotic beauty, has been a part of the National Hot Rod Association since 2005; it was her previous record-breaking performance that gained her the membership of NHRA. Lyons is one of the few drag racers that has the ability to build and design her own engines. Lyons is also known for her stunning role on SPEED network’s “Car Warriors”. Nicole Lyons has already been featured on several news outlets including NBC Nightly News w/ Brian Williams, FOX, CBS, Tyra Banks, Drag Illustrated Magazine, RIDES Magazine, G4TV, and many more. She is what critics are calling “The Jackie Robinson of Drag Racing.”

UFC 146: Junior dos Santos shoots down Frank Mir

In front of a wild cheering crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, UFC Heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos dealt former two-time UFC heavyweight title holder a beat down to retain his belt. Frank Mir, a submission expert, failed to capitalize on his expertise against the heavy-handed Brazilian. Instead, Mir elected to play into dos Santos' gameplan and paid the price.

Frank Mir failed to take the fight to the ground, a milieu where dos Santos was untested wherein he has a greater shot of upsetting the champion. After a failed takedown attempt right at the start of the fight, he elected to trade blows with Junior dos Santos, a decision that proved costly to his cause.

Dan Wheldon honored in Motor City

Two-time Indianapolis 500 winner Dan Wheldon, who died from injuries suffered in a crash at the 2011 IZOD IndyCar World Championship at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, was honored posthumously with the Borg-Warner Championship Drivers' Trophy in Detroit.

The trophy, which is a replica of the Borg-Warner trophy, is usually given to the winner of the Indianapolis 500 each year as a personal keepsake, since the original trophy, unlike other racing competitions, 'does not go home' with the winner after its presentation. It is returned to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Hall of Fame Museum, where it stays permanently until the next ceremony.

The 'Baby Borg' was presented to his wife, Susie, by Borg-Warner Chairman and CEO Tim Manganello at the Automotive News World Congress, held in conjunction with the Detroit International Auto Show.

“Anyone who knew Dan or heard him speak about the Indy 500 knew how passionate he was about this race. He loved everything about it. I don’t have to tell you how happy it made Dan to win his second Indianapolis 500. Anyone who was there that day or watched on TV could see how absolutely fulfilled and joyful he was. So much so that he laid down on the track, drenched in milk, with feet up in the air and fists pumping, soaking it all in. His face will be forever etched on this special trophy, but his legacy will reach far beyond," said Susie Wheldon about her late husband's second Indianapolis 500 victory on May 29, 2011.

Here's the video of Dan Wheldon's last moments on the track on that fateful day in October 2011 in Las Vegas --

Who is this boxing media guy?

A prominent member of the mainstream media was the object of disdain and the subject of ridicule by some of his colleagues (?) and the people who attended the weigh- ins. Moments before the weigh- ins the lady host announced to clear a particular area in front of the stage so that some photographers in the makeshift podium could take pictures without being obstructed.

But the moment the weigh- ins started, this particular media character with his massive frame moved and stood into the center of 'no man's land' and despite the protests of the photographers behind him, maintained his ground as if he did not hear all the yelling and hollering directed at him to move out of the picture.

Some media members, particularly the photojournalists, can only shake their heads at this man's arrogance and murmured, "Perhaps, being a prominent media personality gave him the license to throw his weight around."

"Despite the pre- fight rhetoric, Alexander and Bradley did not throw caution to the wind. Despite all the trash- talking, the fighters did not engage in toe- to -toe exchanges. Despite the promised fireworks, the match- up simply failed to explode."
